Mountain Ranch
The premier golf retreat in
Arkansas, this 18-hole, 72-par masterpiece, designed by Edmund B. Ault,
Ltd., contains some of the most exciting golf in America: a par 5 14th
hole with an 80-foot drop from tee to fairway; a par 4 15th hole with 395
yards, uphill! Mountain Ranch will have you coming back time and time
again. Ranked #1 among public and semi-private courses in Arkansas by
Golf Digest, it is overseeded in winter for great conditions year round.

Indian
Hills
Often considered the most
scenic golf course in the state of Arkansas, because of its spectacular
views of the Ozarks and Greers Ferry Lake. The
elevated 8th hole green hangs from the edge of a gorge and the 17th hole
offers a 175-yard "fairway" over a canyon. Members and Guests of the
Indian Hills Country Club
also enjoy the 19th Hole and
take advantage of golf clinics and lessons.
National
Championship Chuckwagon RacesTM
Held annually and
culminating on Labor Day weekend, this week-long Western spectacular is
great entertainment for spectators and participants alike! Even if you've
never ridden a horse, you'll feast on the cookouts, camping, tack
auctions, trail rides, mule competitions, roughrider rodeos, wagon races,
tons of great food and vendor events. And it is just one example of the
interesting and exciting annual festivals and events, such as the annual
Bean Festival & Outhouse Races in Mountain View, the Trout Calling Contest
and Cardboard Boat Races in Heber Springs, and the Fiddler's Contest in
Leslie, that all happen right here in our Ozark Mountain backyard.
Water
Fun
If you like to spend
your time boating, swimming, skiing, rock climbing, hiking, picnicking,
and basking in the sun, the Ozarks were made for you and your family.
Fishing
Our
river tributaries produce some of the largest walleye in the world,
including the world record walleye weighing more than 22 pounds and Greers
Ferry Lake is home to largemouth and smallmouth bass, the spotted or
Kentucky bass, the striped bass/white bass hybrids, lake trout, crappie
and bream, and recently yielded the new world’s record hybrid bass
weighing 27 pounds, 5 ounces.
A local guide
landed the fish in April of 1997 when he was trolling in 45 feet of water.
After fighting it for 25 minutes, Jerry Shaum of Shirley knew he had a
huge fish on the line and held on until he prevailed. The Little Red River
(pictured above) feeds Greers Ferry Lake. A world-class fishery for brown
trout and rainbow trout, the Little Red River produced another world
record fish: a 40-pound, 4-ounce brown trout, in 1992, eclipsing the
earlier record catches of 28 to 29 pounds.
Trail
Riding
For those
outdoorsy adventuresome folks who like horseback riding, mountain biking,
and trekking through nature's great beauty, Holley Mountain Airpark is
ideally situated to afford the finest recreation and most spectacular
scenery to be found anywhere on earth.
Below: Indian Rock
Cave at nearby Fairfield Bay is a natural and historic wonder.
Hieroglyphs, dating to the time that Native Americans used the cave for
sacred ceremonies, are visible on the interior walls.

DeSoto and
"The Trail of Tears" passed along Indian Rock Cave (which is listed on the
National Register of Historic Places). Log Cabin Museum with its
Bicentennial Totem Pole, Indian Falls Nature Trail and Wild Horse Canyon
are located nearby the cave.
For the
slightly less venturesome, the Ozarks abound with pastoral indulgence:
bingo, card games, hobby and craft classes, children's playgrounds and
miniature golf, horseshoes, shuffleboard, volleyball and, of course, the
variety of fine eateries and unique artisan shops is virtually non-stop.
